Contact Has Already Done What You’re Asking Them to Do

Many of our texting campaigns ask people to do something, such as call their representative about an issue or vote in an election. Sometimes we reach people who’ve already done the action we’re texting about.

If They’ve Already Called Their Representative

If there’s an option for “Already Called,” use that.

If not, record their answer as “Yes,” but don’t necessarily send them the Yes message. Check to see if there’s a canned response asking them for further interaction, for example calling their rep’s local offices instead of the DC one. Remind them that it doesn’t hurt to call frequently/every day, and make sure to thank them!

If They’ve Already Voted

Follow the campaign instructions for how to respond when someone has already voted.
