Using Canned Responses
Often people respond with something other than a direct answer to the question that we’re asking. We provide scripts (called “canned responses” in Spoke) for many scenarios such as wrong numbers and additional info.
Please review the canned responses before you start sending replies so you know what messages you have available.
How to Use a Canned Response
- Apply any tags like “Moved” or “Wrong Number” first.
- Click “Canned Responses.”
- Select the appropriate response.
- Send the message, adapting if needed.
Adapting and Writing Responses
Please don’t change the first text that you send to all contacts. These have been created with our organizing partners and approved by them. If you think the first text needs editing, see below.
You can, however, modify canned responses to make your conversations more natural — just make sure to keep any necessary info, like the date and time of an event or the link to a candidate’s website.
If none of the canned responses work, you can write and send your own message. Keep it short and conversational — emoji are okay! 👍 We can’t prescribe a response for every interaction you get, so please use your best judgement. If you get stuck, ask for suggestions in our Facebook group or Slack community!
